I was planning on it. There are a few things left to do that will position Belgium well for the coming months. I hope the Citizens have the confidence in me for another month.

Well no strong candidates in my party want to run so I might just sponsor Thore then. On the other hand Kylero is running but I don't think I am going to sponsor him.

I am NOT running again. Two terms in a row is enough for anyone, especially after what we went through these last two months. I would like to see Habraka run this month. I believe we need experience to get us through this next, critical, month.

To be honest I have no idea of who Habraka is instead of the fact that hes published a few articles, PP of Res Belgica, and a congress member. It's like he came out of nowhere. But please correct me if I am wrong as he may have been previously active or whatever.

I think the players who have been active in eBelgium in the past months (specially because it have been hard months where many left the game) should get priority. If we didn't have a good candidate I would agree. But Theneka deserves the change and I would find it extremely unfair if someone who comes out of nowhere would be chosen.

Presidential elections are about who will be most likely to be a successful leader, not who has seniority. Fairness should not be an issue when our country's future is at stake.

I would support Habraka because of his experience, growth-oriented economic policies and practical (rather than ideological) approach to politics.

Fairness and seniority do have a positive side. Trustworthy and loyalty being two important features. I would these are extremely important for a countries future as well.

As for Habraka, he could be a great player and could help Belgium. But we have absolutely NO idea if that will be the case.
Maybe in a few months when we get to know him better and see that he isn't only after a medal. Who knows maybe then I'll vote for him as well. But clearly now is NOT the time.

Theneka has worked for Belgium during these hard times. He could have chosen experience and left our great country. But he didn't. Instead he chose for eBelgium!

All we know of Habraka is that he didn't find eBelgium worthy of his attention until all big players left. After only being an eBelgium citizen for a few weeks he ran for PP and CP. Sorry but that doesn't sound fair or smart at all.

During the PP elections he showed he doesn't care about fairness but instead believes in aggressive tactics (like not giving any other party a change to advertise their candidates). These tactics should be banned and made illegal.

Their should also be a law that new citizens can NOT run for president and should have been elected at least 2 times for congress.
That's not only fair but also save. It would protect us from PTO and make it easier to chose a good president.

I have nothing against Habraka it's just that I tend to feel a similar way such as this. Why should we elect Habraka as CP when we are only starting to get to know him.

If you want to talk about seniority, I have been in Belgian politics since January 2009. Only Palodigon, shadowukcs and Bruno Goethals have more seniority than me.

Are you suggesting I'm not trustworthy and loyal?

aVegan wrote:

You have no idea if that will be the case, no need to speak for everyone.

aVegan wrote:

A medal? Do you think that is what this is all about? I have more gold than the poorest 25 countries in this game. I have donated thousands of gold to various small countries that could use it. Don't you think if I wanted a presidential medal so bad, I would simply buy one?

aVegan wrote:

Theneka could be a good candidate, I honestly don't know him well enough to judge him. If he wins and helps the country, great for all of us. I'm not a sore loser.

I didn't find Belgium worthy? Check up on your history, I have done more for Belgium that most people around in the entire history of this country. I haven't played for months, that is why I wasn't around when you started playing, not because I didn't deem Belgium worthy enough.

About the Res Belgica party president election: when I came back, I was looking for a party to hang out with. I noticed Res Belgica which was led by a good friend and former colleague of mine, Kheops. I knew him from way back when I started playing in 2008. I also noticed that the then party president had quit playing, with his wellness being at 12 and his happiness at 10 or so. It was a couple of days before the PP elections, so I put myself up as candidate. Nobody else ran, so I won the election fair and square. I can understand that you would have preferred an inactive player to continue running Res Belgica, as that would have eliminated part of the competition during elections. But for the good of Res Belgica and the country, I am PP now.

aVegan wrote:

You had a chance just like everyone to advertise your candidates. I just did it better than you did. Are you going to keep blaming me for your inability to run a good election campaign?

aVegan wrote:

You're a little dictator are you? Wanting to eliminate your political opponents by making laws that make it illegal for them to run for office and making their election campaigns illegal. What's next, a law that will ban all political parties that aren't communist? Stalin would be proud.

Also, this is my third term in Belgian Congress, I have been in Congress twice for Flanders in '09. Are you now going to change your law proposal so you can still try to ban me from running?

aVegan wrote:

You have no idea what a PTO actually is, do you? Do you honestly think foreigners that want to PTO Belgium are going to abide by a non-binding law made on an unofficial community forum? All a PTO group needs to do is make their own party, set their own candidate, and vote him in with a majority of votes. No law you make up can prevent that.

Exactly. You don't know him or anyone else (for sure their will be 1 or 2 exceptions) of us for that matter. We also do not know you.
So is asking some time to get to know you before running for country president so much to ask?

Is it to much to ask to first have the time to get to know someone before needing to vote for him? I don't really care what you have done a year ago (people tend to change) or what you did in another country (where does your loyalty lie?). I want to know what you did here (last month and the month before that).

You don't have to see this as an attack. I have absolutely nothing against you and would say the same to every newcomer.

First of all I didn't start a law proposal (and if one will be made it certainly wouldn't be ready before next elections).
I thought it was clear I was talking about the months before running for CP. And not about a year ago that 90% of the current citizens wheren't even around.
I also do not think I am a bad PP. As far as I know we got more members and seats in congress. You are mixing up ethical with bad.

It is funny when you call me a dictator while you took over the advertising space. You do know taking over media is the first thing a real dictator does?

You have told us that you have more gold than the poorest 25 countries so do you think it is fair that because of your wealth you can dominate the advertising space for 95%?
I am sorry to say but this has been reglementated in RL and I do not think it would be bad to do the same in eBelgium. The ads are an important part of campaigning. Every party should be able to use this feature. And not only the wealthy who can put ridiculous low hits/gold ratios.
It could make the difference between a democracy and dictatorship.

[Public politics]Presidential Elections Empty Re: [Public politics]Presidential Elections

Post by Habraka Abrivianius 2010-08-30, 23:17

I sunk like what, 5-10 gold in the advertisement campaign, at 0.0001 Gold per impression. That's not a lot to be honest. I just had different adds open, that's hardly illegal.

Also, you cannot relegate the advertisement market, seeing as that only something the admins can do. You see, this is what I am talking about, you are again mixing RL and games. Things that might be favorable in real life, aren't so much in games like eRep. I play games to win, by any and all means (as long as it doesn't break the Terms of Service, the rules of the admins so to speak). If me winning does not seem fair to you, I'm sorry for you then, but I won't hold back.

You cannot have a dictatorship due to game mechanics. So don't worry about me trying to grab power to destroy the country, Congress can simply impeach me if I do things that are destructive to the country.

I would think you would also want to follow the eBelgium laws and constitution. These ARE part of the game, cause the game is actually build by US and not so much by the admin. If you say you do not care about what has been created on this forum you are not playing the same game as I am.

The laws we make at this forum are as much terms of service as the once the admin dictates.
But it is great to hear that you do not respect them. Why do we actually have this forum?

I would certainly follow the Belgian laws and constitution, I have never said I would not. I simply said you cannot enforce them. Every player has to make out for himself whether to follow them or not, there is nothing you can do to force a player to follow the laws made on this forum. You can try mailing the admins, but I doubt you'll get much success. If anyone wants to TO this country, they will not follow any laws/constitution we want them too, and there is nothing you can do about that really.

The laws aren't useless, as long as the players (community) agree to follow them.

I would really love to have a debate with Theneka btw, you know, the actual BCP candidate Wink. Next thing we know, people will start thinking you are running for president Vegan, instead of Theneka.

aVegan, don't be like this please. You do know you were once a member of RB. And what was the reason of being a member: pure opportunism, so please don't go this way.

Keep it a fair and just election. Don't play the man, but the ball. Judge Habraka on his skills, not his eRep-person.

As I said before I have the upper most respect for Res Belgica.
And I never hided I was a member. Instead I have shown my gratitude multiple times and never became a member out of pure opportunism but because it was the only left party at that time. I always made this clear and even when I was a member I always made it clear it was only an in between stop to the BCP.

I am NOT attacking anyone personally, neither do I have any personal problems with Habraka. I judge Habraka on what I know about him. And that is absolutely NOTHING. Except for his aggressive advertising tactics.

As I have said multiple times I would love to have a Res Belgica president. But at least I want to know him or her longer than 2 weeks.

I'm going to work :p so sorry, no debating for me, perhaps if I get back home on time. Proletarians life is a hard one Smile
And I would be against regulating advertisement, we can't controll that anyway.

But we can make a gentlemen's agreement not to take over all space.
I do not see why this is so strange. In RL political advertising is regulated why not in this game? And please do not start about this is a game. If this game has absolutely no similarity with RL it has failed big time.

It is hard to see important and respected eBelgians going after one another on a personal basis. The fact is, if we try, it is quite possible to learn a great deal about Habraka from a number of sources, including his introductory posts on this forum, his wiki page, and his newspaper. He has not made any effort to hide who he is or what his history is, as far as I can see. This debate shouldn't be about who has been where or done what. Both candidates can make just claims in this area. A Vegan, I think you know I have great respect and even affection for you, and ideologically, I am probably nearer to you than to Habraka. What we need now, however, is a unified vision for eBelgium's future. I think a debate on the issues, not on personalities, is a very good idea. I am willing to offer my own newspaper as the medium for this. If people are interested, I would be willing to submit the same questions to each candidate and publish their responses together, without editorial comment. If anyone is interested, you could send questions you would like to have asked to me by PM. I will then forward the same set of questions to each candidate and put their responses forward, shall we say Saturday, which is the day before the election.
