I'm not sure if any of you follow the eNL news.

An exerpt from the Elgorro presidential campaign:

Quality Label Newspapers
The Ministery of Home Affairs will work on a Quality Label for Newspapers. The media in our country is dead and we need to improve it. The idea is that citizens can nominate a newspaper for the label. The Ministery will check if the newspaper meets the requirements of the label. If so, the newspaper receives the label and is allowed to use the label in the paper. Next to the label, the Ministery will create a monthly prize, e.g. for best newspaper and/or best article.

Personally I think it would be good to get more media activity in eNL. But they start out from the worst possible point of view imo: having the government decide who gets a label.

What do you guys think about it? And any ideas for an alternative?

don't like quality labels, if you are bad and you stop, nobody will ask you to continue, if you are good and you stop, people will ask you to continue, that is the only quality label that matters

Well, the best would be to force everybody to install eRepublic Advance. That brings back the TOP-5 articles, which used to drive the whole media thing.

On the label: Government shouldn't decide such things, indeed. A whole step already would be to have Congress decide it. That uses to change a bit less than the government, which just include a few parties willing to work together (if the eNL system hasn't changed since I left, that is Wink ). If it follows the eBE system (President elects cabinet) it would be even worse to have the government control the media. (Although in RL Hungary it's pretty much daily business...)
So my advice would be: have citizens nominate it, and have Congress vote on whether it deserves the label.

Unless you want to make it a popularity contest ofcourse. Then you can just raise a poll in the Congress Debate Area (where only eNL citizens can post and thus vote).

Oh, and don't forget to thing of a rule to REMOVE the right to use the label if a newspaper goes below all standards after a good start. And have something in mind to do when random people just copy the image in their own newspaper while they don't have the right, because that will definitely happen. Wink

The label thing is completely wrong, but that thing about the prizes for best article can work - in eMacedonia I used to organize that king of prize, called ePulitzer Prize - it was monthly award, was given to the best article according to the 30 members of the Council made for evaluating the articles, the best article according to the eCitizens, the best picture in the article, the best article on foreign language published in eMacedonia and the best old article (Honorary award). There was also a fund where everyone could have donated money, and the award usually was 10-15 gold. That thing can work!

newsflash: media module has been dead since the admins killed a year ago or so.

I don't think I've even read any eBelgian media in quite some time other than the links ppl force me to read trough IRC or shouts or something.

Oh and the government approving such a label... you clearly don't know our government. Ppl would grant/take away such label from ppl each month. Not because their articles are bad, but just because they don't like the writer.
