F1 - Jérôme D'Ambrosio replaces Romain Grosjean (Lotus)

Post by Backwards on 2012-09-04, 11:57

Great news for our tiny ass country. Jérôme D'Ambrosio is replacing Grosjean within Lotus during next weekend's GP of Italy (Monza).

'Full' story:

Grosjean made a .. not so smart move at the start of Belgian GP last weekend and caused a collision with Hamilton which lead to more cars falling out of the race. Grosjean received a race ban for the next race (Monza, Italy), which immediately brings D'Ambrosio up as he is the only spare driver within the Lotus F1 team.

Today was the official announcement of D'Ambrosio replacing Grosjean. Great!

His time to shine and prove himself worthy in front of the full F1 paddock.

thumbs up for him Smile

Hopefully he does a better job than Grosjean and he takes Grosjeans place in a few more GP's...

Grosjean is a good driver. He's done well against Raikkonen so getting rid of him for only one mistake would be a bad choice in my view!

When he drove for Virgin he never did better then a 14th place, most of the time he would finish 20th. Let's hope he will do better now.

Grosjean isn't a bad driver, no. Like most rookies, he still makes mistakes which are typical for rookies, but so will D'Ambrosio probably do.

Getting rid of Grosjean is not even something that should be considered. Which probably won't.

Fhaemita: True, but remember that Marussia (Marussia Virgin last year) is the second smallest team in the F1. Only HRT is having more problems due to 'small' budgets and even they seem to be making a little progress on Marussia (Virgin). So it was impossible to get an even higher ending result then the ones D'Ambrosio obtained during his career with Virgin. He proved himself a decent driver by outracing Glock on many occasions.
Those smaller team have their own battles to fight and race to complete anyway, which only exist of beating the other teammate and outracing the other smaller teams. (Marussia, HRT and Caterham in this case)
Also have to consider that D'Ambrosio only had 1 opportunity to drive in the E20 (current car of Lotus he will be driving), so practice sessions beforehand the qualification this weekend will be crucial for him.

Monza: isn't that the track where Senna died? (Just saying Twisted Evil )

Also, being proud of it that he's in? I respect F1 drivers, cuz it's a real topsport, but 1st: you have to be rich, 2nd: F1 is corrupt till the bone, 3rd: environmental a disaster,...

But on the other hand:

No. Senna died at Imola. And if you find that funny, it is not Wink

Virgin was a pretty bad car.

We can't really compare them to Ferrari or Red Bull. They've like very, very, very much more money then Marussia or HRT has, so it's normal that they don't have good cars.

Anyway, it's a good opportunity for D'ambo to prove himself to the world that he can really drive because he's a very talented driver!! And with the current Lotus, I don't see any problems for him, just stay out any possible crashes/traffic and I think a 5-10 place is possible for him Very Happy

I'm optimistic, but not that optimistic lol

only when all the toppers are out in a crash at the first turn of the race, he'll be able to win :p

As Grosjean did it, he can certainly too.
