Europa Universalis 4

Post by MCKitkat on 2013-05-01, 20:49

I just heard that Paradox Interactive started an event for upcoming Europa Universalis 4. For me EU 3 was the best strategy game since Hearts of Iron 2 / Darkest Hour (especially the Kaiserreich Mod)

Here is what you can win:

Holy s***, I haven't played EU3 in ages... I sunk so much time into that thing, it was amazing!

Q3 2013 can't come quick enough.

Wait, wut? They have already 2 DLC packs which you just don't get when you BUY the game for € 50? Like they have it on the shelves, but just won't give it?

Guess they learned that from EA...

In the genre, I can't really choose between the strategy, micro-management and historical correct feeling of EU3 and the historical broader, diplomatically better and graphically way more inspiring Civilization series...

Eh... so long as it's a quality game, I really don't give a s***. At least they don't sound like anything important, and this is still better than game publishers making exclusive content for specific retailers. That stuff really pisses me off.

Well the DLC's for EU3 always added important things that increased the game experience while EA sellls you an unfinished game for 50 € and sells you tons of DLC's with little to no change for such an expensive price that you find yourself with a nearly finished game for 100-150 € or even more.

That being said, I don't mind DLC's if they bring lots of changes and increase the game experience, game time. If I have to pay 15 € for a new map and some weapons or 15 € for a new countries, technologies, periods and co, then my choice goes to the last one.

I don't think I ever finished a game of EU3, although I have to admit that it is a really good game that I enjoyed a lot to play ^^.

Looking forward to EU4 ! Very Happy

After finishing several games with pamper countries (like UK, Spain or France) and losing several times with Belgian regional thingies. I found the cheat module and owned Europe + Africa + North America only to get bored after too much ownage. Razz

Definitely one of the better titles in the genre.

Really? I kinda create a nice little superpower with Holland (later Netherlands), owning Netherlands, Belgium, multiple provinces in Germany, France and Italy (yeah, don't ask how I got there... Razz). Further, I obtained nearly all of Latin America, large parts of South and West Africa, and some colonies in Indonesia.

One big key rule: Don't let your "bad boy"-reputation run up. Ever. And try to have some small allies nearby that can easily be convinced (or scared) into staying ally (or vassal)... they make for great cannonfodder in wars...
Further: Fight some little countries with too little or unimportant allies and annex them. Gain any casus belli, and especially cores, whenever possible... doesn't matter what it does to your stability. When you grow, you'll be leader in wars, so you can forge peace proposal that especially benefit you (too bad for the allies you fought with). Oh, and keep inflation at zero.

That pretty much did it. In the late years of the game, I even stood equally against Spain in a world wide war (yeah, we both owned a load of provinces everywhere). Didn't expect that when starting out as Holland Wink

NOTE: I didn't use mods. Might be impossible with Mundi mod... Wink
