you all know the green and red bars and how some people like to use it to vote everything someone says down just because they don't like this person. Isn't it better to just get rid of it?

just look at this topic for an example:

https://ebelgium.forumotion.net/t2791-hello-ebelgium

I don't understand what's so fun in doing it but in my opinion I think we can also use the forum whithout it and perhaps create a little bit less hatred along the way.

It was introduced to be able to vote someoens post up i we agreed instead of posting "+1" and to vote it down, if we didnt agree with someones opinion or statement

It is fun to use, you will never be able to stop people from voting everything down, thats the bad side
But, if you see people are voting down your post wich says "welcome", then you know you can simply ignore those posts and dont care about your reputation since you know it isnt about what you say but just one person that is pissed on you
More problematic is it if you put up a statement and it gets 5 vote downs, then you know that your statement isnt the one of the others

I'm not talking about me. I don't really bother about my reputation. It's just something that I see happening in a lot of debates. I sometimes fear that other people will not really look at the idea anymore because 1 or 2 other persons already voted it down and like this just join the majority. That's why I myself prefere the written approval where you reply and state why you agree or why you disagree and not just because you don't like the person who comes up with the idea.

I just had the feeling that there was sometimes a general feel of hatred connected with the red bar that's all.

Well, we could remove the effects of negative votes. Can't disable negative voting though, just the voting at all or not. I can change the weight of negative votes to 0 instead of -1. Or increase the weight of positive votes Smile

You don't have to do this because I say it Wink.

I was just wondering how the rest of us thought about it.

Smile There will always be people like Theneka who think everything and everyone should be red. I don't even notice it half the time, tbh.

tbf, I have never used this voting thing in all my time here on the forum. It's a waste of clicks imo. Who care for stupid reputation anyway?

I too can't see any added value to those bars. People usually post "+1" to make their support public, and with these bars you can only see some anonymous agreement. And if everyone ignores them anyway, why not just simply take them off permanntly?
