Bonjour mes amis!

It's time to share your knowledge. If you are a French speaker, teach us some rudimentary words or phrase and maybe some grammar too that we should learn or at least know about. Post them here!

But if you're a foreign gringo/gringa, then ask any french-language-specific questions here!

Malheureusement, je ne comprends pas ce que vous dites, Monsieur. Ma connaissance de la langue francaise est tres limitee.

This is the first thing I learned in French, and the most useful. Spelling corrections from true French speakers are welcome. Also, how can I insert diacritic marks here?

This reminds me of a joke I heard on a old rerun of The Red Green Show last night (for those of you who don't know, it is a Canadian comedy show). They were playing a word game where one player tries to get the other to say a certain word, in this case "about". One of the clues given was "When a soldier turns around and goes in the other direction, you call that..." and the other player said "French". My husband, not having seen the various comments here about the French, could not understand why I laughed so hard at that.
