New alliance: Luna

Luna is a defensive alliance made of minor powers in the world. Personally I think Belgium and the Netherlands would fit nicely into this alliance.

I'm an avid supporter of alliances to better Belgium and her (nonexistant) relations. But atm, we have a certain island country breathing down our neck. I'll be lobbying this as soon as we bone those Brits...

A long time ago, I was a member of Sol's council. Although it existed for a long time, aside from the training wars, Sol was nearly completely inactive and always voted against intervening in the military affairs of its member nations, even to the point that they were conquered by their enemies. As an alliance, it was a failure. I suspect Luna will be much the same.

Formally wanting to join any strategic alliance would seriously contradict our current long-term neutrality policy. We stand for sovereign countries and are against imperialism. It's aims, according to the Luna Introduction are:

* To build a community;
fail, you don't need an alliance for that

* Prevent Political Take-Overs;

fail, with countries like India, Malaysia, Israel and the Philippines in it, all you will ever do is send soldiers to there ever election to back them out. These are countries that are dealing with PTO's themselves on regular basais, how on earth are they going to help other?

* To defend alliance members.

Duh, that's pretty obvious. Question is: how? Again, neither of those 4 members have a decent army.

It aims to succeed where such alliances as ONE and Sol both failed, as "ineffective 'neutral' alliance[s]".

and yet, when I read this, I read something that's an exact copy of ONE, SOL and Entente.

Check their charters, they all claim at some point or another that they are a defensive alliance.

it has never existed. All alliances claim they are defensive. But you have 2 kinds of them: the ones that say that they are defensive but attack everything that's not with them. And they survive and grow big. And then you those who don't want to go in attack and they die and become failed alliances.

So the simple truth is this: It is impossible to form a good working, decent defensive alliance.

But at the begining of the game, it was possible... Thus we can't say that it has never existed.

no, because defensive alliances are plain retarded. You are playing a game where the entire economy is fuelled and driven by war. The thought of a defensive alliance is indirectly against the game mechanics.

I have to agree with Elynea on the point about "Luna" possibly being different. Speaking on behalf of eNZ, our nation, like eBelgium, has attempted to adhere to a policy of neutrality in the world.

However, as we both know, this is nearly impossible in our global setting. Still, I have spoken with the Presidents of all "Luna" nations to get their take on the alliance and it will most definitely be different. I can say that as neutral nation (with slight leanings to ONE because of our Serb population) we are looking at Luna because we want to help other small nations.

I realize its current members are "weak" or "suspect" to PTO's but the point of the Alliance is to aid them in their time of need and help to keep them out of the "big boys" firing range.

I would say Belgium should consider it and see what it might bring to them.

That is my two cents,

You'll never form a third bloc. You simply can't with small nations. No matter how many small nations you'll add, you will always be the joke in the international scene (I'm sorry to put it that way but that's just how it is)

A quick update on this really small alliance, bothAustria and Uruguay have recently joined the alliance. I guess it really is starting to attract those small nations that want to find allies.

Any particular reason why a small nation like eBelgium hasn't joined? I mean it could give your nation new training wars and it isn't caught up with the big alliances.
