Official Statement from DonMatteo
Official Statement from DonMatteo
Dear eBelgians!
I would like to explain some important things for me and our beautiful country, eBelgium. As some of you know, eBelgium is in the danger of a PTO-attempt from the polish group G50. Recently a few people with Polish roots received eBelgium’s citizenship, as can be seen in these links:
Unfortunately, I came to eBelgium during the same period as these people and I am completely honest with you, I came from Poland. I am however not a part of these group of people!
I am a polish man who arrived in eBelgium with clear and good intentions. I heard that this country is a bit inactive and when I arrived here, I realized that eBelgium is a country, where National Army is disorganized!
First thing which I have done was trying to help out with the Belgian Army Reorganization project.
Further, eBelgium was fighting in a Resistance War against eNetherlands. Because I saw a lack of organization & funds and I had some money, I voluntarily decided to support the eBelgian war effort by donating 225 Q6 weapons (that I bought for ~11 000 BEF, my total amount of currency at that time)
After talking to some people on IRC, Critically decided to start supplying and I donated him these weapons.
However, I noticed that I didn’t got a warm welcome. I realise that my arrival could be seen as suspicious, but I got the feeling that I didn’t got the chance the proof my good intentions.
If someone asks what my future plans are for eBelgium, I would have answered them with one sentence: Help eBelgium and make eBelgium better
If I got the chance, I would like to organize the eBelgian Army. Furthermore I want to increase eBelgium’s welfare and follow eBelgium’s stance on being an independent and neutral country.
What I don’t want to do, is to destroy or work against eBelgium
I wanted to do this, but a lot of eBelgium looked to me with only suspicion
I thought I could help out, by being a Congress Member, but I was treated like a PTO’er.
I lately received a message, that probably all eBelgians got, asking eBelgians to boycot me, something that made me really angry.
I reacted very mad to certain people on this, and I want to apologise for this. While I do not agree with the treatment I received, I can understand that the intentions were for the good of eBelgium.
I just want to make clear, I am NOT a member of this G50 - group and I only want to help eBelgium. While I really want to become a Congress Member, I want even more the best for eBelgium.
Therefore, after careful consideration and against some of my wishes I decided , for the sake of eBelgium, to retreat my candidacy as Congress Member this coming elections.
I hope that I now will finally get a fair chance, to continue showing eBelgium my good intentions and I could get the warm welcome that everyone should deserve when entering a new community.
Friendly greetings,
DonMatteo

I'm glad to see that you are willing to sacrifice one of your personal wishes in order to help us out.
Please don't have hard feelings for our suspicious behaviour, it's done with the best intentions.
I hope that everyone will give you now hugs, beer and cookies

Re: Official Statement from DonMatteo
Thank you for this statement and for withdrawing your candidacy this time as a show of good intentions. I think there are others here, like el1temkd, who can show you that suspicions may be overcome by good actions. Thank you for fighting for the good of eBelgium.

This is a very honourable behavior, be sure we won't forget it.
As for the warm welcome I don't feel like we've been particularly cold but since I've stopped hugging lately because of sleep deprivation, I'll do my best to do it again.

I think you can be trusted (like I said in PM) but this gives the eBelgian citizens more time to get to know you.

I agree, it's very sad, but sometimes it happens (and indeed it was also the same problem with El1temkd and now he's VP ).

I was a bit surprised at the in-game message to boycot others as well. First time I saw that, and sorry to see you got caught in the cross-fire. Like stated above...
Belgium would benefit from more active members

Re: Official Statement from DonMatteo
Dear DonMatteo,
Over the past weeks you've showed your interest in helping to build a better eBelgium. It can very well be that you are in the wrong place in the wrong time. Take a look on the bright side, we're not spitefull people and we can accept that we sometimes make mistakes. The threat we face is real. If you want to help with a better army, contact Critically as he's now in charge of coordinating our national army.
Trust in the circumstances of our small country is no longer something we can give to everyone in a naïve way. Don't see this action as judgement of who you are. Allow for time to show your true intentions (helping for a better eBelgium) and you'll do fine.

Well, I'm glad I didn't accidentally accept a PTOer. That was close.

Re: Official Statement from DonMatteo
No need to keep on rambling about the fact that this is a paranoid attitude or not, we have a PTO threat and a war ongoing... having a congress this month will be hard enough, won't it ?

With that experience, I think we should be able to profile anyone easily. That takes a few messages and a few questions and lessens bad feelings about being suspected as a PTOer if approached as a precautionary system.
@ Procuste,
We have gone through so much PTO threats and other threats in the past. We can always bounce back. Id rather not injure the dignity of the possible contributors to this community in the future. Once again, there is a fine line between cynicism and paranoia. It's good to take caution but to isolate anyone and deny their rights without strong basis is wrong. That is why in rl we have what you call "innocent until proven guilty", a system that has permeated through time and through cultural boundaries.
