[Tutorial] How to start a profitable company
Here is the first part of my (extensive) tutorial about how to start a company.
- Part 1 : The organisation.
- Part 2 : The financing
- Part 3 : Make projections
- Part 4 : Buy the company
- Part 5 : Startup the company and How to get good employees
- Part 6 : Sell your products and take money out of your company
- Part 7 : When to close your company and important things to keep track of
- Part 8 : F.A.Q.
If you have any questions, please post here. They will be answered as soon as possible and maybe taken in Pat 9 (or another part if I forget something).

Re: [Tutorial] How to start a profitable company
Maybe some adds:
Organization don't need food to be alive (or reach the level 3 to be able to use MT).
This is the second important element, where are you going to settle your organization. This is a very strategic decision. Why? Because if you settle your organization in a country that produces the raws you need, you’ll be able to get cheaper raws than buying it on your local market (except if your country produces the raws, but even then you cannot be sure).
=> You can move your org, so it's important but u still be able to move it later if it's in a wrong place.
Moreover you should add that in some countries (don't know if it's true for UK) there are a MoR which provide raws from cheapest countries around the world. Then it avoid the cost of moving your org.
When u're talking of contracts, maybe that need a little explanation (example of it?)
As far as I know, for Q1 companies, you almost never work with skill 5. It's kinda hard to keep them. Usually you have to deal with skills 2-4 (and some skills 4 will leave for Q2 anyway).
For the productivity formula there are lots of website where the formula is already implemented, so it would be better to give some links too.
Examples: http://erepublik.ws/productivity
When you say that: "The best you can do is buy as much as you can (like 400-500 units at once). " with your Q2 example just above, that would just last 1 day :p. Even in my Q1 I usually uses 150 raws a day so I try to have 1K more raws in stock all the times (but I'm kinda afraid :p).
At the examples at the end for how much gold u need:
For raws materials, as a Q3, if u reach quickly 10 employees (screwing level 1 :p) you don't need 20 golds of wages. And I think that u haven't took into account the cost of the Organization when u are talking of the overall cost, u should add the 5 golds after.
Excepted these details, nice job^^.

It only states general elements. V2 may change things, but most of it will remain actual.

v2 will change many things, but should still be general enough to apply. i wonder about the function of time.. what role it will play.

Time? They already explained it.
You'll have a daily schedule, and u'll spend the time you want to work/sleep etc.

Re: [Tutorial] How to start a profitable company
Wonderful guide, there's one thing that isn't clear to me though:
For example: I want to start a food company. According to the first part of your guide, I'd settle my organisation in a country with cheap grain, for example Portugal. However, I want to have my company settled in Belgium. Will I have to pay anything to get the grain from Portugal to Belgium?
Thank you for your answer,
Biblost

If you want send grain from Portugal to company in Belgium, you must have organization in Portugal where you will buy grain from organization account and then donate to your company in Belgium. (But remember on organization account you have only 20 slots so you can buy only 20 grain then donate to company and again buy grain...)

Do NOT do this (no offence). You can only donate 20 at a time like he said and a company can easily use several thousand a day. It would take you hours and is really not worth it. If you have a company, you realistically have to buy raws from the country it's in.

In V2 it's true (in V1 it wasn't so laborious). But it's the only way to get raw materials from another country, but as he said it's not worth it.

Re: [Tutorial] How to start a profitable company
So the guide is a little outdated, as, when starting an organization, you shouldn't only think about the raws, you should also think about the market in that country, am I right?

Yes of course, you must check the prices of products what you want to make, becouse maybe it will not be profitable for you (you must compare salaries with product prices and raw materials).

Re: [Tutorial] How to start a profitable company
I'd suggest getting a company calculator and experimenting a bit before you do anything.

Alright, I'll buy a company calculator at the nearest eRepublik shop in my town. ^o)
A link to a company calculator would be useful. :-)
Re: [Tutorial] How to start a profitable company
I use Batterytime's Company Calc
It's a bit difficult to understand at the beginning but is quite easy to use when you get used to it.
Note: You need a google account (if you don't have one, it's free so just sign up)
The instructions aren't to complicated so just follow them. I suggest finding an existing food company in Belgium or Portugal or wherever and just changing the skills and pay of the workers to see how much it'll cost.
If you have any problems, just ask.
