What to do ?

I currently have some BEF, enough to buy 33.6 gold.

I originally wanted to upgrade my food factories, but it is apparently a bad idea atm.

I have two Q1 and one Q2 factories.

What would you do ?

Upgrade Training Ground, that's the way to go.
Upgrading your companies is useless

don't do anything before erep promotions  

indeed, wait for any promotions to pop up. They come every now and then, allowing you to save quite some gold on upgrading your training grounds.

You will know when there is one active by the banners on top of the erepublik screen on the game website.

Yeah, you first make sure you understand the game(as it is now).
Who knows, you might end up discovering that what you thought of doing may not be what you wanted after all.

Just do you "work & training"(minimum) and the "Daily Order" which will get you bazooka-parts and energy-bars, both very handy for completing mission or for possible war-time.

If you want to buy golds (with BEF, I guess you didn't spoke about euros ), I would advice you to sell BEF for gold instead. It will take a while but allow you to have a better rate and maybe even make some profits .

... which in fact wouldn't even be THAT bad as... well... as this game doesn't have much goals anyway.

Another important point is to register on the forum... oh, wait, you already did that; so you're actually on the good track. Just remember there's always plenty of people around here willing to help you. With advice, but even with some cash and/or loan if you have just too little cash to upgrade when the offer pops up

Yes I was talking about buying gold with bef, not €  
As prices are pretty low (I think, but my vision is biaised, when I last logged in I had a normal 140bef job and was buying wheat at 0.14 :p) I think I'll start to buy some.
