Informed Voter Newspaper Yes or No?
Newspaper Idea: The informed Voter
I was wondering if anybody would be interested if I were to create a newspaper called the Informed Voter?
The basic idea would be the following:
Every time an issue is voted on, in eRep or on the Forums, I would send PM's out to all members of congress asking how they voted and maybe a 1 or 2 sentence comment. Then I would put all this info together in a hopefully clear short article.
The idea is to have voters know who they are really voting for to represent them instead of solely having to rely on presentations.
If this idea gets enough positive comments I'd really like to try this, but will probably take 2 more days to implement because I'm not yet lvl 9

Re: Newspaper Idea: The informed Voter
It seems a very interesting project !
It will help the citizens to learn better the candidate for whom they voted, it will maybe bring more activity in the congress votes, and it will give the citizens interests about congress issues...
Nice idea, really ^^

Actually I don't like this idea since it's contrary to a democratic process. We already have debates on the forum to express our points of views.
Saying what or who you vote for and then commenting it is just not "right".
(I don't want you to believe I'm opposed to you creating a newspaper Aapocistan, I think it's a great idea to bring new ideas to eBelgium )

The votes are public no ? We can see for what you vote at every single vote, in the congress voting area...

I knew that one was coming but I was too lazy to answer already : you don't see votes ingame. Aapocistan wants congressmembers to comment on votes ingame too.

I don't see how commenting on ingame votes would be undemocratic? I believe every voter has a right to know what his representative does for him/her. And, while it's true that a lot of reasoning can be found on the forums I don't think many citizens bother with reading 15 mins worth of discussion on every topic.
Moreover, after a while this should allow voters to see if congressmen follow strict party lines, are rather anarchistic, have strict believes etc.
In RL congress members do not get elected by what you can find out in preparatory legislative texts but on what they say or do before the cameras/mikes/reporters.

Great idea - sounds like the needed complement on the work along directives, so that it be clearly documented if representatives hold on to the directives they stated in their election campaign.

Re: Newspaper Idea: The informed Voter
Although I share Procuste's reservations about asking people to reveal what is supposed to be a private vote (in-game only), I certainly think it should be considered a good to have our voters well informed, and indeed the forum votes are publicly accessible anyway. If people will read it, this could be a very good thing. One additional thing you might consider is following who puts up the in-game votes and whether they have been properly debated beforehand.

Re: Newspaper Idea: The informed Voter
It is indeed a very good idea!
The challenge will be to keep continuing it, also when very few congress members are willing to reply your message, or when the comment below an article go out of hand because a certain vote is a sensitive one...
Don't let such initial disappointments slow you down!
