Hot topics in eBelgium
Hello fellow citizens.
As a new member of both the nation and these forums, I have been doing a great deal of reading trying to discover the social and political landscape of the country. I have decided the easiest way is just to throw out a very simple question.
What are the hot topics affecting eBelgium right now.
I have read the history of the country, union with eNL and union with the UK and such, but where do things stand now? The consensus seems to be for a free and independent eBelgium, which makes perfect sense to me, but why did unions occur in the first place, and what will stop them happening again in the future?
Thanks for any advice and information which may be forthcoming.

Re: Hot topics in eBelgium
That article has a slant to it just to warn you. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing just telling you to take in both sides and form your own opinion. I won't be surprised if this thread turns into a :*:shitstorm:*:
At this point Belgium has 2 major party's (each of which lean slightly towards one of the major alliances) and a smaller yet active independent party. ALL of these parties are good choices and no serious person thinks any of them have any other agenda than the advancement of Belgium and its people.
Hopefully no trolls will try to sway you either way, draw your own conclusions.

Unions occured because Belgium has no high regions (thus giving no job opportunities for land workers) and because it is weak against PTO threats.

And yea, the Article is Phoenix based. Not that neutral, but it gives a clear view.

An attempt at a more or less objective presentation of our recent history (just part 1 for now, parts 2 and 3 still need to be translated):

Re: Hot topics in eBelgium
Many thanks to Theneka and Aldous for the interesting articles, which give an excellent background into to the world I have arrived in. To be honest I have felt like I have started watching a film half way through, but now I think I have some understanding...
So, the world is divided into two camps (EDEN and PHOENIX), the two major political parties have some bias towards one or another of these but neither have anything other than the advancement of eBelgium at their heart. This is about right I take it?
My next question it this:
How is the advancement of eBelgium to be achieved, and how do individual citizens contribute to this?

Every person finds different things interesting about the game, but there are a lot of things you can do to contribute
- Write quality articles and participate in debates (both on forums and in game by commenting on articles written by others)
- Volunteer to be a mentor in our coaching program (obviously you need to gain some experience before you can start coaching others though)
- Run for Congress (before you do this, again you need to build up your reputation for being knowledgeable, helpful, and a good communicator. Some people go on a comment posting spree for two days, then when they don't win a seat in Congress they leave the country. No one wants a medal chaser, they want someone who genuinely wants to help Belgium)
- Build up your Strength and Rank so you can better defend your country. (I wouldn't waste gold on Lana every day, but it's nice to do once in a while. Also if you can afford Q1 weapons you'll rank up faster.)
- Invest in Belgium. Do some research and if you find an industry you think you can profit in and open up a business (which will not be a land/gathering company, Belgium has no high resource regions)
- Promote eBelgium and eRepublik. Only takes a few minutes to talk about this game on other forums you like to visit.
There's probably other stuff you can do, but those are off the top of my head.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
very much agreed with these guys
Many think that fun in this game is all about the 2 clicks you can do a day, and drop out after a couple of days because it's not that fun. But the real fun is the socilizing aspect in the community that grows around the game, such as this place here. It requires some time to get updated and make acquiantance with the community, but it will sure keep you coming back if you make that effort
