Medal donations
As the sign-in thread in congress seems to yet again host this debate (those posts and reactions shouldn't even be in there as they are off topic) I would like to ask the discussion to be held in the correct manner with its own thread, like this one for example.
It encompasses two things really:
1. Should we donate our medal gold to the state ?
- I think this is a voluntary thing you either do or don't, no pressure, it's just a way to increase state revenue when you look at it objectively.
2. Should the state keep massive reserves of gold and what for ?
- This is again a personal opinion, I would largely prefer the state to spend part of it on a monthly basis as there is no reason to increase state reserves.
As these medals are personal donations, you could also choose to do something with immediat impact with that Gold. A good example last month was Goopy donating a part of his medal directly to BTA and my congressional medal going directly to MoFUN. These are not the only causes in eBelgium, MaryamQ is hosting the media-awards which cost her personally about 10 Gold last month, The supply officers, even though they would easily be elected if they chose to run, simply can't do this anymore, you can share a part of your medal as a token of your appreciation for their work.

the gold is helping eBE more when it's used by players in stead of lying around in some org

Re: Medal donations
I must agree with shadowukcs! I am not giving the gold from my medal, but instead of it, I'm giving (at least) 2000 BEF for the winner(s) of eBelgian Song Contest, that I'm organizing!!! What for are we keeping that gold in the National Bank???

Re: Medal donations
well, in the past we used the gold for a lot more things (MPP's were bought in gold, we tended to have a peg on the market in order to maintain the value of the BEF, ...) but these days, what does the government use gold for?
that being said though, what would you use the gold for?
imho being elected in eBelgium is not really a skill, not something you really had to work or campaign for. Giving the gold to NBB/BNB was at that time a sign of giving the damn easily won gold to a greater goal. As long as you use the gold for a better goal, I can not see why you'd have to donate it to the NBB
but ofcourse, what is a better goal?

Shame on me for forgetting the song festival in my initial post.
I think most people can do something for the greater good with part of their congress gold. As put by Sammy, this is easy gold.

upgrade companies, create new companies, putting on the MM (=improvement for our economy and increase tax income), strenght training, tanking (= increase of our national strenght on the battlefield), creating a newspaper (= increase in social activity),....
Imo you're helping eBelgium a lot more by actually using it than when it's stored in the NBB for an eternity.

Re: Medal donations
I choose to donate my medal gold (and have already done so) to the NBB, as I have always done. However, I do agree that there is no need to keep it sitting in reserve forever. So, I think it is up to us a members of Congress and the government to put it to work for the good of our citizens. Surely there are ways to do that to make us stronger as a country.

Sorry Nohjis. I agree with Shadow's first post about the gold is better in the hands of the players.

Re: Medal donations
I'm not saying I disagree with the fact that the money should be in the hands of the players, in fact I'm saying it should be and have provided multiple alternatives to state donation but still serving a more noble goal then keeping it for yourself.
I have also said that congress should spend some of the reserves.

Re: Medal donations
Ultimately, we are a small nation between a bunch of bigger nations who would very much like to conquer us. It would be reckless not to have reserves in case of a war. Though obviously we shouldn't have mountain of Gold in some semi-mythical org, but we need to keep a Rainy Day Fund.

Re: Medal donations
I agree with the above comments. We are a very small country with a small army. We need to continue to build and always have a good reserve of money/gold in reserves. Without this safe funding of gold I strongly believe our national security would be on the line.
